whoa.

i wish the pics were better and i'd love a look at the engine.

hard to predict how much that car is worth. many cars get messed up just sitting around. as a general rule, i like it when they've been run hard.

damn!!

That is nice. I don't know if I'd pay $22.5k for a 240D stick. However, I guess if I had way too much money and still loved 240D sticks (im sure i would) then I'd get it!!

I imagine that a lot of things are probably not too happy just sitting around.. but who knows..
maybe despite not doing anything, things that were not right were taken care of?

LarryBible should see this one!

I predict it doesn't sell because the reserve is too high and the bids will top out at $11,000. Strange story but could be true. Back in 1982, a friend at work showed me this ad for an immaculate 1967 Corvette with only 6,000 miles listed in the New York Times classified for sale at $12,000. He called but it sold that morning and the lady had 300 phone calls by noon. Turns out that this elderly lady son owned the car and was drafted in 1967 and died in Vietnam. She couldn't bear to sell it until many years later when she was moving.

Its worth exactly what the highest bidder will pay. But with that high a reserve it may not get any bids.

Actually, it's got 7 bids...very clean car!! I would be concerned about the car having sat so long, though, as Diesel Don mentioned...

Isn't it funny how in 21 years and only 7,800 miles, it got upgraded "bundt cake" type rims and a new Becker stereo? Call me a skeptic..

Sure is purddy to look at...

An '86 SDL with 34k miles sold the other day on eBay for $15,000. Me thinks this is a little high for the 240D. I think that is pretty close to the sticker price.

I personally wouldn't buy that car, the reserve is too high, and the miles are too low. These cars are meant to be driven, not sit, and obviously the owner of this car didn't do the right thing and sell 21 years ago, but instead they let it sit. If it doesn't have a bunch of leaks right now, it should develop a bunch after driving it for several thousand miles. If I were to buy it, I would only pay $3,000-$4,000.

>>>....1967 Corvette ....elderly lady son owned the car and was drafted in 1967 and died in Vietnam....

Pvt. Andrew Malone.... of country/western music fame??

Otherwise, the worst Mercedes I've ever owned was 250/8 that had merely 54k miles 20+ years after the car was built.

Alternator and starter had to be replaced almost immediately (oxidation/corrosion of internal, electrical components?)..... the car got piss-poor gas mileage (oxidation/corrosion of carburetors?)..... and it also used alot of oil (leaky hardened crankshaft engine seals and/or frozen, rusted piston rings?)

I've learned my lesson - extremely low mileage older cars that have never been driven are sucker bets!!

The eBay seller forgot to put that "it comes complete with the all the original fluids too! Oil, antifreeze, windshield solvent, etc."

99% original -- same air in tires that was installed at the factory!

I would hope that the fluids have been changed. I am sure they have been since the dealership installed the CD player. I don't know why anyone would want to install a factory CD player in anyways. Most aftermarket units are much better.

Yes, it is beautiful. If I had money to spare, I'd go $12,000 or maybe a little higher. Working for a company with one foot in the grave does not, however, set up a situation conducive to such a purchase.

Whoever gets it will have a treasure. Yes sitting up is not totally healthy, but it would be worth doing a few things to have such a nice "new" car.

Have a great day,

Here's one that is not so 'special'

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2409880732&category=6329

It's tempting.. too bad there's probably a high reserve on it.
