Greetings Forumites! I have a question:
During Marlene's recent excursion back and forth across Texas and Oklahoma, she has developed a low frequency rumble and vibration.

It feels/sounds like it is coming from the left rear wheel and is particularly noticeable under hard acceleration and at speed (60-80 mph) if the suspension is compressed significantly as it would be in travel over normal road undulations.

My first thought is a driveline disk failing and, I've already got these parts in inventory for replacement sometime this week. While I have her on the stands, how can I check the axleshafts and wheel bearings?

Axle shafts; since they are basically C.V. joints, if you notice a growling and grinding when turning/cornering it is probably an axle shaft. To check the rear wheel bearings; lift the suspect wheel off the ground, at the 3&9 and again at the 6 &12 oclock positions rock ( push and pull). If there is any play, and nothing else moves it's the wheel bearing. If the rubber axle shaft boots are not split, then the axles are 98% sure to be ok.

my car seems to have the same symptoms along with a very annoying noise.

Turns out this was a bad universal joint in the driveshaft. Replacement took care of the problem.
