Am I missing a part????
Okay, heres a weird one. At the last gtg someone noticed that my car, '84 300D, doesn't have the black vacuum switch box on top of the valve cover. Seems everyone elses car had it from the earlier models through an 85. The car runs fine, shifts well, smoothly and at the proper intervals and the downshifting works too. Nothing I can see is disconnected in the vacuum system. So the questions is, am I missing this part? I figured my car was different since it is an original California car..... I'm just curious about this, I'm not planning on installing the black box as the car drives just fine as is. Thanks, RT

I think you're right, it's because it's a California car. My '85 has no vacuum box either, just some linkages and a microswitch. I'm not sure but I think those changes to Calif cars started in '84 along with the emissions changes. Prior to '84 I think they were all 50 state cars.

RW,
Be glad you don't have one. Its a PITA to remove the valve cover with that thing attached. If I had one, I'd take it off and throw it away. Maybe that's what someone else did to your car. P E H |
PEH,
Hehehe! Maybe you are right! I don't have the box, don't want it, don't need it. Don't have a microswitch either... Maybe less is more and thats why my trans shifts so sweet! RT |
RW,
Another possibility: '80 and earlier engines didn't have the subjects parts so maybe your car had an engine transplant. P E H |
What does the microswitch do?
Can anyone tell me what the microswitch does? Something to do w/ downshifting?
