Third seat, etc.
Hello all, I just came home with an '85 300 TD with 120K. It did not come with the third seat option and I would like to install one. Anyone know what I need to do this. Anyone have a dark blue seat they'd like to get rid of? I have a spare set of alloys I may be willing to part with. Also, I hear a high pitched whistle (pretty quiet) when I back out of the throttle. It sounds like a vacuum like. Any ideas?

the whistle is normal for turbo diesels. have you noticed semi trucks have them as well? post some pictures when you get the chance!! eric

Last I checked a full 3rd seat installation at the dealer cost $1,000+. You can find new after market seats on Ebay or in Hemmings that cost closer to $400. They are pretty close to the factory seat but generally only have lap belts with no shoulder belt. It's a pretty easy bolt in job that can be done in an hour or two.

Should you find a seat in another color, I have an unopened quart of dark blue Leatherique dye, which should be just what you need to color the new 3rd seat (it's bound to be MB Tex, no matter what your seats are). I bought the pristeen clean and the conditioner too on e-bay but my upholstery is Palomino. The guy who bought it origianlly sold the car he was planning to use it on, but it's unopened and like new.
