www.************************.

When you have a price on the rental, compare to what a machine shop will charge.

I paid the shop 30 bucks to do mine

I figured it couldn't have been any more expensive than renting and was more convenient to boot. Dropped the steering knuckles off, had lunch and then picked 'em up and slapped 'em on!

I hate the idea of leaving parts with people who may or may not know what they are doing. I have had some very bad experiences with supposed "professionals" (read-complete idiots) working on my vehicles. I would hate for some nitwit with exactly 5 functioning brain cells damage the steering knuckle or new joint. RT

I changed my lowers last week. I pulled the steering knuckles and had them pressed in at my local machine shop. I agree that I would not trust this job to just any machine shop. The guy that pressed mine in said it took more than 10 tons and he even made pieces to fit over the old joint and new, that allowed him to press the old out and the new in without damaging the new joint. This was on a 300sd (w126) and is was very easy. I was allready replacing the brakes and rotors and it was so easy that I don't think I would take the chance I would screw it up with the manual press.

Good Luck!!!

I paid $30 to my local MB specialty shop to press both lowers in for me. He said that it took a special MB tool and a press because it was not a straight press. Now I ride squeak free.
