New MB diesels are already here.....

Maybe this is old news but I just found out that Freightliner Sprinter cargo vans have MB drivelines and cdi DIESELS!!! I suppose a little large for most of us but what a great workvan or small RV this thing would be....
http://www.sprinter.com/echora/dcvan/sprinter/SPRINTER2_RIGHT/CVMMain.ehtml

I don't suppose the engine/trans package would swap easily into older MB chassis???? Hmmmm.

Yeah this is old news... But none the less, I thought the exact same thing you did: swap these new CDi's in for our 60x, 61x engines! I think those vans go for only 28 grand or something!

I don't get it. If they have been available for a while yet it is said that the CDI engines can't run with the high-sulfur-content diesel fuel we have right now, how did these Sprinter vans run?

Holson,

Why couldn't they run on high sulphur Diesel fuel? They just can't meet the emission reauirements.

BTW, why don't you get rid of the ugly BMW picture? LOL

I see. I wonder if I'll ever see CDI's in MA. I guess every now and then I'll see one with a NH plate or something

The ugly BMW? I think the E24 is gorgeous only the back is a lil ugly.

I don't wanna go off topic so I'm just gonna add it here... yeah I like the E34 better. More modern, etc. But I love the E24's nose! They both have the same S38 motor though right? with its $10k head or something hehehe... oh well BMW's

In "The Star" (MBCA mag) they reported that the Diesel Sedans are coming back as a E320 CDi in 2004.

Just in time for my parents next car purchase. I can see it now, the old Diesel and the new Diesel sitting together in the Driveway, would make for a nice pic.

I read recently, also in the STAR I believe, MB is having tests run to see if the E320CDI can be sold in the "hold out" states, so don't give up hope yet Holson!

I think the problems with our fuel is that the catalytic convertors that they have cannot handle the high sulfur content. Is this correct? If it is, are these CDi's that are here now in the vans without these cat's?
