What are these components in a 240D engine compartment?

Dear friends:

Please help identify the names and functions of the marked (1 & 2) components in the attached image.

#2 is the cruise control actuator.

#1 is a plastic cover, remove it and you will find the relays for your a/c and electric cooling fan, nice clean engine compartment i might add!!!!

my original post. Thanks for your help.

Mercedesmatt: I've just washed my car with oil eater (cleaner/degreaser) before taking the picture. That's why you think it's clean :-).

ive been a diesel mechanic for 15 yrs. working on over the road trucks as well as mercedes benz diesels in my side buisness at home. i have always washed the engines in my vehicles everytime i wash the vehicle.... sure makes it a little nicer when you have to work on one to work on a clean one!!!! keep up the good work!!!
