My G Wagen is going to need a water pump. At first I thought it was a common item as found on any other 617 diesel. NOT! My engine is a 617.931. Strangely enough there are 3 different pumps shown in the EPC, one of which begins with a 110 part number anoher I think is a 115 number.

My water pump part number is 616 200 07 02, the local MB dealer says "sorry, have to order from the fatherland, 3 week wait and pay up front", not to mention that it is more than double($274 vs $129) the cost of the 110 pump!

My question is this, where else is this water pump used (ie what other motor/vehicle)? Is there another source for this pump?

One positive note, Europa has one in stock and has only sold one in the past 6 years. So I guess these water pumps can last a long time. Of course for that much money they ought to be gold plated!

Might see if you can get the one you have rebuilt. When I had my old 220D I found out I could get the bearings and seals from a local supply house (BESCO), since that's pretty much all there is to go bad on a water pump. (I never persued it since I got rid of the car before it needed another water pump)

I second the rebuild idea. The Mercedes service manual for the 616 engine shows how to rebuild it.
I think the water pump in the G-Wagen may also have been used in the 309d etc commercial vans sold in the rest of the world. I bought the one for my 307d at Europa. I could be the one person they sold a pump to! In my case, the pump was very unusual in that the fan clutch attached to the pump with one large central bolt instead of the usual 4 bolts.
You could also try Euro-Tech which has access to the European parts list. You might also try buying directly from a European parts supplier, perhaps in the UK. There are a number of suppliers in the UK on the web.

The other option is to take the Cuban mechanic approach. Look closely at your pump and see if one from a 300d might fit. On my 307d, if Ihad been able to replace the fan clutch and fan (from a junkyard?) I could have substituted a pump from an auto engine.
From looking at my manual, some pumps have different sized bearings, but I'm betting an auto engine pump might work just fine.

And here is how to do it cheap....

Drive out to the nearest farming community town... make sure it has a least three tractor dealers...

Drive an old pickup there... and take the water pump in to the local machine shop.., tractor shop, alternator rebuilding shop... and don't even tell them what it came off of... ask if they can rebuild it.... tell them you are not in a hurry. Old tractors would not be running if we had to find " new" on stuff like this that wears out regularly ( every 15 years )....
