They had ' something' to do with boats.... the three pronged star stands for 'water, land and air'.... they pretty much had it all covered with that....

Yeah they had something to do with boats... They set off-shore speed records in their day. They were big in the sport in the 1920's.

Enzo
Ferrari built a speed boat in the late 40's. I believe it was his first solo project after leaving Fiat. It is on display in the factory's reception room in Maranello. I saw it when I visited there in 1992.

Very interesting. I want more pics!!!!! What would be really cool would be to power it with a diesel Mercedes (of course) engine.

Mercedes I think makes diesels for boats. The are called MTU's. The purchased Detriot diesel a couple of years ago to get there electronic engine manigment system.

I once worked on a 33' Trawler that used a pair of 617 turbo
diesel plants. That was in the Pre-MTU days. Man, those puppies sure could leak oil. Yech........ DR.D |

They've built marine and aircraft engines off and on thru
their history...as did Packard, Rolls-Royce, Hispano-Suiza, and many other great "independents." BMW made aircraft engines long before they built vehicles.

With respect, looking at your list, I would have to say they built one boat and two classics.
