Bent Control Rod?

This car is advertised as having a bent control rod. What exactly is that?

Aaron - you need to look at that one. I know you wanted a 123, but hey, it's white over blue. And with engine trouble, I'm sure you can get a great deal on it.

The early 603's did not have the bent connecting rod problem. It was the later 3.5 liters.

I agree. The listing says 6 cyl but shows a W124 300D.

Sorry for the confusion.

Still, what is a bent control rod? A suspension component?

The control rod is part of the mechanism in the IP that tells the ELR (idle controller) what's going on in the IP. Those are extreme layman's terms since I'm too lazy to fire up the CD manual to find the one page in 70 of the IP survey that discusses the control rod.

If you ask me, the main function of the control rod device is to make it difficult to replace the stop valve.

FYI, Adsit (www.adsitco.com) has used IP's for ~$400 and rebuilt ones for about twice that.

I was talking about the control rod sensor, not the control rod itself. Doning some research. More to follow...

Not necessarily a revelation but I'm too dumb to figure out what the control rod does based on what's in the CD manual. Suffice it to say that it's an internal component of the IP that translates the hokus pokus of the governor, thorttle position, ELR and whatever else into how much fuel or pressure gets to the delivery valves.

That said, I wonder how anyone could tear so far into an IP to figure out that the control rod was bent and not fix it. It must take a heck of a heavy right foot to bend a control rod.

Maybe it is a connecting rod (unlikely) or suspension control arm (would have mentioned which corner) that's bent.

The description of the car mentions rough idle but smooth sailing at speed. Maybe they are guessing at the control rod, or perhaps they have a mechanic that knows his business. The idle problem would be in linw with your description of the control rod and it's function. Thanks.
