What was the Moroney tag (sticker price) on a loaded 1986 300 SDL? The previous owner was a 100% dealer maintenance type of guy (through 196,000 miles when I purchaced). I have every reciept for maintenance/repair that was performed - just curious what his cost of ownership was per year.

I believe they ran $45k-$47k. Mine had a sticker of a little over $45k. Obviously 1986 dollars. Didn't run the NPV using the CPI but I would guess that translates into almost double ($90k) in 2003 dollars.

ABS and an air bag was really high tech stuff then!

It's just money

Thanks 45K for the car, his receipts total $26,912 on 16 years so about $4,500 yr. Probably no value to this information, but was reading a thread earlier about dealer dollars and was wondering about the relationship. Thanks!

Don't forget to subtract the price you paid for the car from his total costs!

TX, was that my rant you were reading? There are people who buy a Mercedes and then take it to the dealer for every service and say "Do whatever it needs." Your guy sounds like one of those. 10% of the car's original cost per year is ridiculous. Those are the people who get taken time and time again and either don't know or don't care.

My relationship with the dealer is entirely different. I watch them like a hawk, my service advisor knows that I know my stuff and he doesn't try to BS me. On the other hand, when something really does need to be done, I don't argue their prices and the service writer appreciates that. The service costs of my $43,000 E300 over 90K miles and nearly 4 years have been way less than even 10% of its value.

Yes Ricky

Yes it was your post and it struck a nerve. I did get an excellent deal on this SDL - noticing the good Dr. always did service at MB I decided I too would go in for an service. (I wanted to drink coffee out of the crystal cups and set in the leather sofa's) You can actually look through a large window into Mazda service with the people setting in plastic chairs with vending available. Pure Vanity - Well the "service" cost me $485 after my 20% discount as the tech forgot to tell me it was a 30K service. I didn't see anything special. $60 for windshield wipers, don't really know what they did except charge me the $42.00 for the air filter that wasn't in stock (come back later and we will slip it in).
Thanks for letting me vent - I feel better now.
Oh and deduct $4700 from the previous owners cost of ownership.

Hi TX. I just noticed the 86 Isuzu turbo D Trooper. I am the proud owner of an 86 P'up Turbo D. Where the heck is Morgans Point? If 76513 is a zip code, it must be around here somewhere.

Paul - Morgans Point Resort is South of Crawford (Bushes joint) maybe a better reference point is 30 SSW of Waco. The Isuzu Turbo Deisel has been a great vehicle. She's at 212K now, been the only owner. Other than things that break/wear-out/burn-out. The only repairs she has had is I/O rear axle bearing, idler pully and that alternator/vaccum pump combo thing (worst that MB's). If I knew the in's and out's of my SDL like the trooper -- I would be very pleased. You are out in Parker County, probably about 150 miles or I guess we are supposed to say 241.5 km on this forum.

I am surprised you are that far away. I thought all the 76 zip codes were within about 75 miles of DFW. Yes, I sure like this old pickup. I have had it for about 7 or 8 years now. Had to do a few things to it, but nothing really major. Clutch cable, parking brake cable, reinforce the firewall, rear pinion seal, stuff like that. AC is out of it now with a leak in the condensor, but haven't fixed it yet.
