Help - Hood Pad Orientation?

Just purchased a pad from my local dealer for the SD. One side of the pad is open cell foam and the other has a smooth cloth like finish. The smooth side also has a foil section. Which side gets the glue?

I think it's the smooth side. If so then the foil is against the hood and not visible after installation. What's right? Tnx in advance for your insight, art

My 83 300D has the foil section facing down toward the air filter. Can't say for sure that is correct, but seem to remember at least two other cars of friends that were set up the same way.

Open cell side gets the glue....smooth side with foil is what you see.

insulator

foil side down! It acts as a heat insulator. So the porus foam side gets the glue.

Art,

Just out of curiosity.......how much was the hood pad from the dealer? I just purchased one from Performance Products.......it's 1/2" foam only. I'll be returning it soon. I paid $39 for mine. Looks like it one of those deals where you get what you pay for. I should have known better.

ez

The one from the dealer is abt the same thickness but with foil and a good looking black material on the visible side. Dealer cost here was $85. 3M (08090) heavy duty high temp spray adhesive from NAPA was $16.44. Two cans req. Put three coats on each surface, wait 10 minutes and go for it. Not really hard at all although I did dry fit and mark with masking tape. Cleaned up with a Scotch Brite pad and left stubborn glue on hood.
