Mike, why not use the CAT 5W-50 DEO in your MB too? Why keep the good stuff only in the VW? I use it in my MB's and change at 10-15k.

For those who don't know, the CAT synthetic DEO 5W-40 is actually Delvac-1 repackaged for Caterpillar (possibly with a boron tracer added, not sure on that.) There's a CAT dealer near my local Home Depot, which makes it easy for me to pick up...

Regards,

Regards,
Doing the Changes @ 3k miles would make the Cat oil cost prohibitive. Also this car is used to having its oil changed at 3k with dino oil, over its 270k lifespan. I'm a little afraid to rock the proverbial boat by changing to synthetic. I don't know what kind of dino varnish it might loosen up to cause me problems.

Regards,

No, I meant using the CAT synthetic at 10k intervals, same as the VW. And cleaning out the crud left by dino is a good thing, IMO. I have switched several cars at 200k+ with zero ill effects, and noticeable benefits. But if you change every 3k, dino is fine. I'm just saying the fears may be unwarranted, but opinions vary greatly on this subject (just search the archives!!)
