Help I cant get the sub frame mount in
Hey folks,
Here I go again. Fixing stuff that was not bothering anybody. I got the sub frame out. that was not so bad. How do I get it in. I got the kit from my brother who works at a dealer. 1500 miles away. These new one look a little bigger than the original. Maybe due to shrinkage. All I know is that I cant get them back in. I clean off the cavity real good and used alot of silicone spray. I tried to press it in with a car jack and it wont do it. WHat now? any and all help is greatly appreciated. thanks bob c |

What's the difference in diamter between what came out and what's going in? On a 126 there are different mounts for left and right. The originals and replacements are marked left and right. I can't tell the difference. Each one seems symmetric about the vertical axis. Maybe you can check part numbers.
I replaced the ones on the SDL last week. They went about 10% of the way in by hand and seated very easily with me turning by hand the yoke on a Japanese car scissors jack. This was with a light dusting of Silglyd. If getting the mounts in is this much work, wait until you have to get those 50 caliber bolts back in place. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

i just did this a few weeks ago, and it was a bear getting them
in. is it going in at all with the jack and then popping back out when you release the jack? i ended up jacking them in and then let the thing just sit for 15 minutes or so; eventually it held about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way. then i jacked in the large bolt (through the spider plate but without the small bolts fastened) and used an open end wrench to get the large bolt to thread. once it took, then i threaded the small bolts; repositioned the jack to put pressure back on the mount and tightened up. hope this helps. good luck.

I did not get the part in yet. I am wondering if they gave me the right part. I have a 1984 300d. THere seems to be a bump on the subframe that might be catching the new mount. the new mounts I got have no recess for such a depression. I dont know. I ruined the parts by burring them down so that they would fit. I am not that happy about it. Has anyone done this job lately that can describe the parts. Any how thanks for all your help. bob c |

on my 82 300D the mounts were easy to get in, with patience.
just line up the mount the way it came out, and using a block of wood or the old mount, Jack up the car so the weight of the car is pushing down on the mount. Go get a Coke or something, read the comics and come back to see that the mount has been pushed in. You'll need to use a lot of lubricant, something like soapy water which isn't bad for rubber.

If I was just reading this correctly there was a change in this mount buushing due to a design variation in the rear end that shows two bushings. One is a little higher than the other and they state on the CD that this one cannot be used due to available room.
I do not have access to the CD right now but will try to look it up again later for you. If someone else has it they could check it too.

Just did mine about 2 weeks ago, almost broke my nose!
to get them in, lots of lubricant, jack under them, and I used a hammer to tap them in. Also, for the one I lowered the trailing arm enough to be able to spray lube in from the top. That helped. But i'd agree with the others: jack it and go to bed!
