no fuel going to engine
 

changed fuel filters today, after changing, turned key on, let fuel run, then started car, ran for 3 seconds then gagged and died...there is no fuel in the clear filter...where is the fuse for the fuel pump???

Have you changed filters before this?

Did you fill the filters with Diesel Purge or diesel fuel before installing?

I'm not familiar with your model, but on the 617's you have to fill these filters before installation. You can also use the had primer to fill everything with fuel, but I've never had to do that as long as I fill the filters with Diesel Purge.

I don't think your car has an electric fuel pump. I think you just keep cranking until it starts. It will take a long time if you didn't put fuel in the big filter before installing it. I think I've read that it can take up to a minute of cranking. Check the archives because that seems like a good way to burn the starter.

On my 603 engine, I loosen the fittings at the injectors and tighten them as fuel spills while cranking. Doing it this way, I crank it for 10 seconds at a time and for no more than 4 times before it runs on its own.

My small filter fill up with a few seconds of cranking so it's easy to see that fuel is flowing.

FWIW, I replaced the filters in my 617 last week and I didn't even have to prime at all. Just filled the big filter with Diesel Purge, crank and start.

stupid me did not fill the filters prior to installation...now i wsa told that I have air in the lines and i have to bleed out the lines until the air is all out..where is the bleeder valve on these cars???

The OM603 engine is self priming and has no hand pump like the earlier cars. You just crank until it fires. Sixto is right though, too much cranking and it will not help your starter much. I've found cranking 30-40 seconds then stopping for a couple of minutes seems to be OK. I had to do this for a few days before I got a glow plug problem fixed and my starter is fine. Even so, I'd suggest removing your big filter and filling it with Diesel Purge or Redline 85 and then trying again. That should help the priming so you don't have to crank as much.

It might save some wear and tear on your battery to disconnect the glow plug relay the first few times you crank for 30-40 seconds.
