Header Pipe replacement
Hi, everybody.
My car is 1985 300D Turbo. I just found out there was a crack on the flexible section of the header pipe (the pipe coming out of the turbo) of the exhaust system. Fastlane has this part for about $135.00. Can this be a DIY project? Any welding requirement for the job? Has any body done this replacement before? I would appreciate if you can share your experience and give any advice and tips on this replacement. Thank you Steve |

Very easy. Just make sure to buy a new clamp for the engine side and a new sealing ring for the other end of the pipe and you'll be all set. I'd check the whole length of the exhaust for pinholes though, I thought I'd only need the front pipe and I ended up replacing the whole thing because of rust-holes that were hidden.

Check the top side of pipes and mufflers for holes. A sign would be black smoke on the underside.
