Nice car, nice color (just like my 280 SE except for the yellow replacement hood, can't sneak around anywhere!)

I gave both of my boys a bath today.

Hey diesleman, where are you in West Virginia?
I grew up in Charleston.

Ether, Dieselman
Nice pictures...388K on the 116 car Ether? Wow. It looks great...love that 116 style!

I will be looking for a 116 car this summer, as a summer car only of course, as I couldn't bear to watch one rust!

Hey Joe,
I live close to Beckley and work at Mountain State University. That black 116 is super nice. Have you had many problems with it. I hope to get that many miles from mine. Mine leaks no oil and drives great. Even in these mountains which you know about. I am going to try and get a better camera and take some better pics.

Thanks,
Dieselman

I've had the front end rebuilt and the starter and ignition switch repaced since I bought it about 2 years ago.

My current issue is the preglow relay. It gets stuck closed on occassion and it doesn't light the glowplug indicator in the dash (bulb is fine) so if I don't catch it and disconnect It'll run the battery down. I need to replace it but the dang thing costs $270 new so I've been trying to find a used one but no luck so far. Oh yeah, the windshield and back window seals leak.

It's spent it's entire life here in the Atlanta area (I'm the 3rd owner) and the body and paint are in pretty good condition.

Now, I like the 124 300D (Wife's car) and it is fun to drive. Much quicker than it's older brother but I love the 116 and to me it has the quintessential Mercedes look and feel.

Ether & dieselman

Great looking 116 cars. I am the proud owner of a '80 300SD also. I have got to take some photos.

Ether where's the high milage award on the 300SD?

Ether 05-04-2003 12:00 PM

Crowe,

I was wondering when somebody would catch that:)

It is actually eligible for both the 250k & 500k badges.

I have the paperwork that the original owner filled out but never sent in for some reason. Probably the same reason I haven't done it either...Procrastination!!!

Dieselman, that blue is beautiful! With Ether and Crowe in the Atlanta area, we could maybe convince you to drive down, I could come over from Birmingham and we could have a 116 fest! If we convince Mikemover to join us, we would have blue, brown, black and cream represented......take over a parking lot somewhere and watch people lust after our rides...:D :D

I know ya'll are sick of this picture, but here you go.....!

TClanton 05-04-2003 11:41 PM

Oh yeah, where'd you get the front tag, Ether? I like the simplicity....all they have at the MB dealer boutique are chromed/gold funky things....

Ether 05-05-2003 12:08 AM

That plate was on the car when I bought it so I'm not sure where it came from.

But if you click on this link adsitco.com and scroll about half way down they have something that looks similar to the plate on my car.

W116 Atlanta Gathering?

I like the idea of a W116 gathering in Atlanta. The Peachtree Section of the MBCA is having an event at the Southern Railway Museum in Deluth, GA (northeast suburb of Atlanta) on Saturday, May 17th. The Museum is open to the public during the event, so even if you all are not members of MBCA it should not be a problem. If you are members of MBCA, even better it should be a fun event. :D

dieselman 05-05-2003 10:01 PM

I think that would be great. I love the 116. I would rather have it than any other. I have a 126 SD and it is not nearly as quick and responsive on the road. I love that classic style.

Thanks,
Dieselman
