Speed verification?
I recently purchased a speedometer in km/h for my 1985 300TD and replaced the face plate but kept the old mechanism and odometer in miles (I hope that made sense ). Anyway, I had to remove the needle and of course did not write the speed VS RPM so I don't know whether my new speedo is accurate. If one of you Diesel sports could write the RPM at 100,120,140km/h and 200km/h but I won't be mad if you skip the last one!!!
Thanks, Igor.

RPM speed verification
100 km/h is usually about 2650
120 km/h is usually about 3200 140 km/h is usually about 3500 200km/ h is about, uh, .... um, maybe 4550(with torque convertor in full effect)? That's how it is on my SDL. It has a 2.88 rear axle ratio. It has the same rear axle ratio as the '85 W123 300TD, I believe. Last edited by DslBnz; 05-28-2003 at 01:04 AM. |

All you have to do is get on the Interstate with the car and a watch with sweep second hand.
Drive at exactly 60 MPH. At this speed it should take EXACTLY 60 seconds to go from one mile marker post to the next. If it takes 62 seconds, the speedometer is reading 2MPH slow and vice versa. Good luck, |

Some AAA locations offer a speedo check. I think it's on a roller machine.
