type and size of socket for flywheel
I'm going to pull the clutch and flywheel from a 240d to keep for a manual conversion for a 300d. In the service manual, the bolts that hold the flywheel on look unusual. They look like a Torx head with more ears. Can anyone tell me the type and size of the correct socket and where to obtain one?

On my 81 SD it was a 12-point 10mm or 13mm socket. Something I had in my toolbox.
What I didn't have was a gauge for measuring 90-degrees of rotation. There's a tool for that but I just painted marks on the socket and flywheel. I had the white out handy so I could number the flywheel bolts to do in sequence. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |
I think its a 12 point 12MM socket. You will need a 1/2 inch drive flavor of the socket to get to the proper torque spec.
