W123 seat swap question
This is not Diesel related, but the W123 experts are here so I'm asking anyway.
Since the driver's seat in my 240D was toally shot, I took it out and put the passenger's seat in its place. I figured out how to remove and replace the bottom frame (a feat in itself!), but still have one hangup. The backrest adjuster is on the wrong side. Can anybody offer a hint on how to move it to the other side? While I'm at it, are the headrests adjustable for height? I've pulled and yanked, and poked for hidden buttons, but can't get them to budge. Thanks.

Do you have TWO arms with hands attached ? Use the other one to pull the seat adjuster knob... you can learn it with a little practice....

Ok, wiseguy. The adjuster on the wrong side keeps me from installing the plastic trim pieces. Never mind that the passenger's seat is missing and all the carpets are gone. I want those cute little plastic pieces in place!

leathermang and I were just being silly. But seriously, could someone tear themselves away from the refrigerant debate for a minute to help me with this?

there is a height adjuster for the headrests. it is hidden on the back of the seat, under the MB Tex. trace down the left pole of the headrest, and i think about 4 or 5 inches down is the button. its hard to push in. if you have your owners manual check in there cause i could be wrong about the exact location, but it is there...
for switching the seat position adjuster i think that would kinda be a PITA. taking the seats apart in general is a PITA. why dont you just go to a salvage yard and find two decent seats? it is totally worth having good seats in the car, when i swapped mine out it made a huge difference in comfort on long trips. and while you have the seats out, clean and spray all the position and height adjust tracks with multilube. good luck and enjoy the new car.

Thanks for the help, guys. I got the headrest raised a little while ago. Sean, your description of the hidden button was perfect. Alas, my $500 car did not come with an owners manual.
Thomas, my seats are similar but not exactly the same. If swapping the adjuster requires beating out those four screws, then I'll probably chicken out. But you did explain why my impact driver has never worked - too small of a hammer! Thanks again. edit - As far as the junkyard question, I went on a search a few years ago and could not find any Mercedes of any model or year in my area. If somebody knows where they are hiding, please let me know! I already Potomac German Auto, but they don't have any good palomino seats at the moment.
