For all you 240D Lovers...

Here is something for all you purists... Okay, it has an automatic, but still, you won't find a newer one. You may already know about it, but I thought I would post it anyway...

Man, that's a nice one.

I did notice a slightly more used one on eBay earlier today, 88K miles with a stick. Nice, clean 2 owner.

I wish I had more $$$$ and an 8 car garage.

I kinda feel my leg getting pulled. He advertises the car as being "all original". Those are not the original wheels. Wonder what else is different?

Maybe someone here with Carfax can check for a rollback? I didn't know that 240D's came in automatic, talk about slow.

Yes, they came with automatics.

The alloy wheels could have been ordered as optional equipment.

CarFax does not go back to 1980. I tried to do one before I bought mine a few weeks ago.

I sure would like to know how they managed to keep the horsehair pads in the seats from turning to dust. Then again, maybe they will as soon as somebody sits on them.

Those pics are great for references. Now I know what my engine bay is supposed to look like.

Great looking car. The probably though is the mileage. There's no way to verify it and I'd think twice before paying a lot of money for this car.

Was the air filter cover polished rather than black in those days? Look at the (new) washer bottle...

It's probably legit, I mean, it was bought with all the options and what not... I think some of the early air cleaners were in fact not black, but I could be wrong. Who knows, it looks really straight. Funny how one never preserves the ultimate model: a 240D with a stick, or a 1980 6.9 with all the options in the right color. It's always a "well, it has this, or not a this...." with these timecapsules.

Thumbs up

what a beautiful car.

Seriously I forgot just what great beautiful cars these W123's were. I mean there are still some that look good now.. however... this 'new' one looks amazing.

They also had a 79 US spec 6.9 up a while back with 5,000 original miles.

That 300SD is so gorgeous and it's in the right color too.... hmmmm

I think 16.7k is a lil too much though.
Last time they also had a gorgeous champagne (smoke silver/gold) 300CD that was just immaculate!

Their Diamond Blue 560 is even nicer! too many nice cars...

The 560 is beautiful, however it has the rims of a 190E or 300E.

My 82 240D has a silver air cleaner (galvanized sheet metal unpainted I believe). I'm no expert, but if isn't original someone did a terrific restoration job on it.

As any mechanic will tell you....

A 20 year old car with 32k on the clock...means he drove it about 5 miles to work and back. In terms of oil condensate byproducts this is about the worst thing you can do to an engine. But engines are cheap compared to interiors or bodywork.

wow, so thats what the trunk should look like without water build up and oil stains from oil containers that don't quite seal after opening.

I don't know why or how anyone could "preserve" a 240D in that manner. I would just have to drive that thing or else I would feel bad for the car for not giving it enough "play time"
