Question Euro Light Wiring for '80 240D

I just bought beautiful Euro Headlights for my 1980 240D but they have 5 male pin connectors and the existing black connector on the car has 4 female pin connectors. I have made up a 5-pin pigtail setup to plug onto the Euro Headlights but I am having trouble determining where the 5 wires should go, when I only have 4 female connectors on the car. Does anyone have a wiring diagram to hook up the Euro Headlights? I am just going to use 55/60W H4s and 55W H3s in the Euro Headlights so I don't think I will have to put in any fancy relays. I just want to replace those old seal beams.

Did you ever get the euros installed? I'm installing the same on my 1983 Euro 240D - any tips?

Thanks!

Do a search. The pinout is in a previous post somewhere. You simply pry the rectangular plastic cover off of the connector and move the pins around to different positions.

Good luck,

Its rather simple. Remove the back cover of both US and Euro headlights, and simply trace the wires to the male pin. Once you do that, open the female connectors and relocate the pins accordingly. The extra pin is for the "driving lights", and doesn't have to be wired up. If you want to wire it up also, take the one from the turn singal and transfer it over. Good Luck and hope this helps.

That's what I did, but I think that someone posted a simple to follow color code and pin position post here a year or two ago.

Good luck,

What is the deal with everyone talking about Ecodes and rewiring? I just took out my 7" round standard old style US headlights and replaced them with a set of Hella 7" round Hella Ecode headlights for about $80 a pair. No wiring and talk about a differance, it was a bigger differance then on our Jetta when I switched those for for $400.

I did the same thing with my '78" 240d a few years ago but was sold 80/100 watt bulbs. I ran those for 6 mos till I discovered this forum and learned that I was lucky I didn't toast my wiring. I think folks talk about beefing up the wiring for over wattage bulbs. I now use Phlips Plus 30s or 50s and they give almost as good a results. WAY better than the old seal beams.

Yes, I've seen more then one person toast their wiring with the high wattage bulbs over the years in cars and motorcycles.

What I have to laugh at is all the people who buy the blue tinted bulbs to make their lights white, in the process putting out less actual light. I mean to tell you I have come along side cars trying to imatate HID's and wonder how they see to drive 70 mph with a light beam only going 10 to 20 yards in front of them.

Ya, this has been a hot topic here seversl times since I have been around. There is lots of good threads about how to beef things up and use relays etc....if your into it. I sprung for "stoneguard" for the Euros on my "85" and the round "7" inchers on the "79". It wasnt cheap but I dont worry about them so much.
