I have a 1980 300SD and have located a vacuum leak in the A/C vacuum system. The leak appears to be coming from an actuator which is on top of the unit under the dash. It appears to be the actuator which controls the center duct. My question regarding this is how does one replace this actuator and is this actuator actually replaceable? I am contemplating removing the two ducts which go to the top of the dash for defrosting the windshield but this seems more complicated than it should. I am wondering if there is an easier way. Thanks.

For some, the only way is to take out the dashboard. I have done many.

Thanks very much. I was afraid someone would say that. Luckily I have the instructions for doing this. Are there any hidden hazards to doing this job?

I have a similar problem with an ACC actuator in my 1980 300D. I can see the actuator, and know it leaks, but cannot see how to get it out other than removing the dash. If you have instructions for removing the dash in a format that could be e-mailed, I would be grateful. Looks like if I could get my hand around the actuator it would not be difficult to replace. Any idea how long removing the dash and reinstalling it would normally takes? Thanks, Dan
