idiot light..... for an idiot? 5cyl turbo
okkkkk Please help me find out what the heck this idiot light is in my Unimog with a 617.952 (300 turbo Diesel). It is not a stock idiot light and may have been installed at same time of the upgrade to the 617 which is why I ask here.
1. Think of what kind of gauge's or idiot lights are installed in MB's with the 617 2. It has come on and stayed on for a while once before. It became intermettent and faded out eventually. A itallian tune up may or may not have finally got it to go out. 3. Came on in wet weather first time 4. has just come on again after wet weather but their has been some previouse wet weather that did not activate it???? 5. Once it starts comming on again ... it will come on when you first turn on ignition switch but before glow plug is button is pushed (seperate button) and before engine starter is activated (seperate button) 6. I have an oil pressure gauge and it seems to be ok 7. I have Volt and Amp meters which also seem to be ok 8. I cant just follow wires.. it disappears up into a hard to reach and see area that is a mess of wires |
Might be a brake wear indicator of some kind???

There is a Unimog forum in case you were not aware.
Is it a red light or a yellow light? Is there an image or icon on the light? My out of thin air guess is a charge light but if you say the ammeter shows proper charging I'm at a loss. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD ... any takers at $1100? |
I am 99.95 sure this is somme brake indicator they use to triger the light at umidity.
Let us now please |
Red can be a parking brake or brake fluid level warning light. If the latter, the float may be leaking, giving a false indication, or you may be low on brake fluid.

douhhh
duouhhh. sorry. ... it's Amber in color. I did cover everything esle though.
I work 7 days a week for now so I ask for ideas and suggestions to shorten my hands on time. I will probe and search based on thoughts I get from here and elsewhere. So Far the hints are to search for Brake sensors and also see if the PTO light is grounding out. (PTO is not on) |
here it is

Near to the hand throttle, labeled "Yellow warning light for???".

lights
coachgeo,
The light might actaully be for glowplugs. Might even be a warning light for the alcohol system if you have air assisted brakes. The pull knob near the hand throttle is the old choke knob. The two little receptacles are where you plug in your work light dropcords. Tricky eh? Our metal tubing for the engine water aren't the same as yours but I'd wager that the hoses from the cut off tubing went to the upper radiator and the gas engine thermostat housing. Don't you have a manual? If not I nknow where you can get one. Ben |

24volt vs 12 v olt
Is a stock Unimog electrical system 24 volt ?
|
12v.... 24v?
Bama.... the answer is..... Yes and No
The Unimog is made to what ever specifications the cusomer ordered. The military ordered 24v. It appears that the specifications that the Mog was ordered with for fire protection use was 12v. I have what appears to have once been a fire mog. It is 12v. |
