turn signal/flasher problem

My turn signal/hazard flasher is working erratically. In the morning and shortly after dark(within 1 hour or so) they blink very rapidly, as if a bulb was burned out. The rest of the day they are fine. They seem to make a slow transition from fast blinking to normal in the morning, it takes a couple of hours for them to normalize. At night, within an hour after dark, they go from normal operation to rapid mode(I haven't observed this while driving, only after parking and restarting). I have removed every light bulb from the taillights and front markers, cleaned their contact places, and reinstalled with die-lelectric grease. I observed no sign of corrosion anywhere. I replaced all the fuses in the fuse box with new fuses as well. I washed the car(78 300D)during the day,and the lights worked fine until it got dark. They work fine during daylight hours with the headlights on as well. Is my blinker relay on the way out?thanks for any help

My '80 240D did the same thing, turn signals would work fine in the cool of the morning but would just buzz when warm.
I pulled the flasher module located in the console, had one of the guys at work pull it apart to expose the circuit board. Found a broken solder joint. Resoldered it and it works fine at any temperature.
Hopes this helps.

turn signal/flasher

I took the flasher relay out to take a look, and found the problem. One of the wires fell off when I removed the assembly, and the others were corroded. I broke off one of the posts trying to remove it, so I will have to replace it. I couldn't find a replacement at my electronics store, so I will make one for it. It is a lot of trouble to go through, but it is fun and satisfying. I plan to take apart all the electrical joints I can easily get to and clean them and reassemble them with some dielectric grease to forestall any future problems with other electric gremlins.

turn signal/flasher

Well, I dismantled the flasher relay, fabricated a new post and socket, cleaned everything up,reinstalled the relay, and it still flahes on rapid, although it is a little quieter. I guess I will have to find another unit to swap with to see if that fixes me up.
