Unhappy slipping transmission

I've read most of the threads in "search" in the famous 2-3 tranny slip, mine just started

95 E300D
150,000 miles
fliuds changed per the book
fluid looks good and is the right capacity
The kit (126-270-44-77) now runs about $9.00 in CA
any further thoughts on this problem?
It goes in Friday, I'll keep you posted....

Change fluid and filter (including draining torque converter) and turn up the transmission modulator 1 turn clockwise. Your transmission is getting worn but you can compensate for this by adjusting the modulator.

the fix is in! I hope.

The 2-3 kit was installed yesterday....I'll post is a few days with the results. The mech said the trannys are good for 125-150 k then need a rebuild or replacement.

It had a couple of springs in it, got it from the locak Benz dealer for about $15.

So far, so good....

If you need the part number I'll try and locate the paprework.

To tighten the bands you have to replace parts. there is no adjustment bolts or the like. I rebuilt my transmission, it was slipping very badly in 4th. Started all of a sudden. I did the fluid and filter replacement. no help.I turned in the mod valve. still no help. So I said what the heck I'll just rebuild it. Yeah sure. All done works fine. I decided all I really needed was to pull the valve body and clean out the years of accumulated gunk. There was no dirt in the pan when I changed the fluid and filter , but the galleries in valve body were dirty and I had a stuck valve (the real culpruit). The valve body can be removed and cleaned with out removing the tranny. be careful removing the side plates the valves have springs under them and will shoot across the garage. keep every thing in order. When you seperate the 2 valve body halves don't loose the check balls that are in the galleries. A simplified version of what is involved, but certainly doable. I replaced all the seals in mine and put a shift kit in it. 1-2 is alittle softer and I made the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts a little harder. I like it. Still have to fine tune the vacuum system.

2 - 3 Tranny Slip, 95 E300D.

b52rule, or anyone with advice,

Read your thread, the tranny in my 95 E300D occasionally slips between 2 and 3 depending on throttle position, or so it seems.

Could you forward any info you have on the springs replacement you made reference to in a thread dated:08/29/04, I would really like to repair this annoying "feature" of my diesel.....

Thanks,

part-timer

2 - 3 Tranny Slip, 95 E300D.

Good news....very easy fix

the bad news.............I believe I pulled the info for that off this forum years ago.

I'll look in the Benz folder in the filing cabinet but I'd keep searching this forum. As I remember it was a ball check valve and a small spring

You can try adjusting before replacing parts. Adjust the modulator, make sure vacuum leaks are plugged. Adjust the VCV with more vacuum if shifts are too harsh or less vacuum if flare.

I'm not sure what way adjusting the modulator needs to go. Mine trans was flaring nd modulator pressure was low so I turned it up to specs.

1979 300CD slipping Trans

Hi,
I have a 1979 300CD ,357 000 miles , with the NON vacuum transmission. It shifts "soft" in the lower gears and in 4th it starts to slip if I go over 65mph. I can feel it in the shifter and there is a "racing" sound as well as the matching bounce of the speedometer.
I did all the adjustment possible on the linkage and the shop adjusted the fluid pressure on the side of the transmission. The fluid is clean and does not smell burned.
Here is my question. I am trying to buy time until I can replace the transmission. Has anyone have any experience with the LUCAS transmission fix fluid (The stop slip one)? I know that some of these liquids don't work and leave a bad residue inside.
Would really appreciate any help.
Thanks
Chris

Lucas & Mobil 1

I nursed one of my 400e's for a couple of years by alternating between Lucas & Mobil 1 ATF. I felt all Lucas was too much like a big slug of goop added to your tranny, and the Mobil 1 seemed to even it out. It's still a crapshoot once your tranny starts to go as to how long it will last, maybe you'll get lucky, but sounds like yours is getting to the end of the road. You should PM member MAVA, Martin is his name. He works on trannies and could probably give a better suggestion. Good luck.
