A/C Slow Cooling

Hopefully someone can shead some light on my situation.
I have a 87 190 Turbo Diesel with a rebuilt compressor and a new dryer. The system is still R-12. The problem is cooling during the day (90 + degrees) and in traffic. I borrowed some guages and these are the #'s.

About 9:00 pm the temp outside was 88F and 66% humidity. After starting the car, the highside pressure went between 250-300 and then stablized to the following.

Idling: highside 200; lowside 40 and the center vent temp 68F

Holding rpms at 1500; highside 215 and lowside fluctuated 25-30 and the center vent temp 60F.

This morning on my commute to work the temp outside was about 77F and 84% humidity and the center vent temp was 38F at 70 mph and in stop/go traffic vent temp rose to 40F.

Would the expansion valve have anything to do with the cooling efficency? It hasn't been replaced.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!!

I don't think the TXV is your problem, but it could be. Your pressures don't indicate that. I'm not sure you really have a problem with low side pressure and vent temp being what they are after stabilization.

I think if your TXV were the problem, you would have the evaporator freezing up or the pressures lower than you are indicating.

Are you sure there's no air in the system and it doesn't have too much oil?

The other problem that you may be seeing is the hot air from those Texas Congressman that refused to go to work and do their jobs.

Good luck,

How would I check for too much oil? When I changed the compressor I added 6 ounces. (I think)

According to the other thread going right now... you don't have a vent temperature problem.... maybe you have a problem with the amount of air being pushed out the vents...
The air will be colder the slower the fan motor is blowing... because it is in contact with the cooling fins longer... but may not produce the cycleing through the car of air fast enough to keep you cool...

Gerrymandering districts to increase power used to have a bad connotation ( and rightfully so)... Our legislature , instead of the mandated 10 year redistricting, was wanting to do it THREE years into the cycle.... so I am not upset with them myself.... and part of the hotair was taken away from Central Texas for a few days... And Ardmore seemed to appreciate the money and attention..

Frankly, I think it's working per specification and does not require repair.

That was in reply to Larry's "The other problem that you may be seeing is the hot air from those Texas Congressman that refused to go to work and do their jobs. "

It was the reason they were up there.... did not want people wonder the rest of the day....

It has actually been thirteen years since the redistricting was done by the will of the people. The last time, a few years ago, was done by a panel of judges that were being forced to legislate from the bench because the democrats who were in control at the time refused to do it themselves.

This did not come out very much in the media. Big surprise.

Had they abandoned their jobs and Texas for a reason that was not selfish, and instead was for a reason that directly effected citizens I MIGHT could have gone along with it.

Regardless of their REASON, they refused to stay and fight like men, instead they chose to run like Chickens.

Have a great day,

They knew that since the rules use Roberts Rules of Order, and vote counting , they did not have a chance... so they went to the Quorum rule.... and used that.... I don't care much ,, the less they do the less they screw up stuff....

Larry, they ran like Armadillos...

Isn't that the truth?!?!?! We would probably be better off if none of them showed up for about twenty years.

Have a great day,

Sooo...basically everyone seems to think my A/C is working fine??

One other question about the auxillary cooling fans. Would the pressure have to stay at or above 250 for them to cycle on or should they click on immediately. They never came on when the pressure hit 250-300 for maybe 20 seonds. The switch was replaced/can it be faulty from the start?
