ig. tumbler removal?

How do I remove my ignition tumbler? I've inserted wires into the holes, tried unscrewing all kinds of stuff and still can't get anything to budge. It's the little hole above the keyhole, right?
then what?

I just did this on Sunday.

Insert a stiff piece of wire into the tiny hole above the keyhole. Not how far it goes.

Then turn the key to position #1. Insert the wire and it should go farther than it did before. You may have to wiggle the key to find the hidden hole as I did. Once it goes in, push the wire HARD. That releases the catch inside so you can unscrew the outer black part.
You'll have to keep holding/pushing the wire in there while you unscrew the outer part.

I was using huge channel locks on mine and scratched it up, but once I actually found the release and got it to work, the black part was easy enough to turn with my fingers. Performance Products sells a tool for this that would make it easier, but it's not totally necessary.

yeah, I did the channel locks thing too. So you're saying more power on the hole, less on the twist, eh?

try inserting bigger and smaller wires in. i used a small (and i mean tiny0 hex key that i bought from the hardware store. the thing is when i changed my tumbler the hex key fit in the old one, but was too big for the new one. if u get it inserted, it should be really easy to turn.

Exactly right. More push, less twist. The hidden hole was really tough to find on my 240D, and the wire kept bending in my hand. The hex key sounds like a good idea if you can find one small enough. And you need to measure so you know when it has gone in.
