My blower motor just went out yesterday. I removed the motor to find the wire going to the + brush had been contacting the commutator and burned through. That explained why it was running slow and stopped randomliy. Is there a cheap way to fix this or do I trade it in for a rebuilt motor?

Repairing the wire should be pretty simple, but if the brushes are worn out or the commutator surface is grooved and tracked it may be worthwhile buying a replacement. To replace the wire, just splice in a new piece and cover the whole area with electrical tape. If you can solder, solder the splice ends, then cover with electrical tape. Good luck, Jim

The commutator has a VERY deep groove in it. (I guess 21 years of running will do that). What does a rebuild usually go for?
