Question Premium Diesel

Has anyone ever heard of Premium Diesel? There is a Shell station in town that advertises Premium #2 Diesel and the price is a little higher than what appears to be average. I looked at the pump and there was no cetane rating so I have no idea what the difference would be.

Thanks,

Thanks for the info guys. I did a Google search and found this site. Check out the info on the left side of the page. Looks like there are guidelines for "Premium Diesel".

But to be labeled as Premium, the fuel only has to pass only 2 out of the 5 requirements. That's only 40%. That was an "F" when I went to school.

Are we going to have "Extra Premium" for 3 out of 5, "Super Premium" for 4 out of 5 and "Ultra Premium" for 5 out of 5 requirements?

Good observation. Guess I didn't read that close enough. Oh, well. Now I'm glad I filled up at the Hess station yesterday for $1.36/gal. instead of $1.54 for "Premium" or even worse, $1.59 at the Hess near my house (7-8 mi. away from the one I used). Crazy how prices can vary even at the same brand stores.

On a side note, I put in a bottle of a new additive - Gumout Diesel Treatment for heavy duty engines. The guy at Advanced said it just came out a couple weeks ago. A little on the high side at $5 and only treats 35 gal. but the claims on the bottle looked good . If not, I'll go back to my mainstay, Power Service Diesel Kleen.

Just a follow-up on the Gumout additive. It seems to work pretty well. Acceleration is good for a non-turbo and no noticeable smoke when accelerating. I've used Diesel Kleen on the last two tanks and will probably go back to the Gumout for good. It's a little more expensive, but I can use the performance increase.
