Oil analysis source?
I am looking to possibly extend my drain intervals and also maybe "test" a K&N filter to see what the hype is about. I need to baseline the motor over two or three changes to get an idea what is happening with oil contamination with a stock filtration system and oil change intervals. What is the best source and what is the cheapest source of oil analysis? Hopefully they are one in the same.... Thanks, RT

I can pick up a "kit" consisting of a bottle and mailer at the local Caterpillar dealer for $9.50 (last price was a couple years ago). Probably the cheapest, may not be the best.
Performance Analysis, 1345 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Suite 258, Oak Ridge, TN 37830 also does oil analysis. Don't have the price handy, but I remember $35? They also have all sorts of other stuff, including climate control servos for the W116. Pretty pricy, but aluminum instead of plastic so they don't crack. Peter

Perforamance Analysis is about $40 for a three pack of oil analysis kits. They are about $14 or $15 if bought singly.
