The "Snail" was stolen

The Snail was stolen a couple days ago in Orlando and may be anywhere now and I know all us diesel heads notice other diesels like nobody else...thought I'd ask for help.

1983 300SD 159K on odo. Silver, new paint, blue lthr. rug cover on dash, new michelins, tinted windows, Fla tag G20 VBS, aftermarket antenna, car looks new. 407-383-0724, Roger Helms

Now the battle with the insurance company over book value!!!

We know who stole it and intend to enforce the "Steal the Snail, Rot in Jail" program.

Thanks

Very Funny!

That was a shellfish thing for him to do, if my snail could only leave a trail....

I've been driving my new Porsche Cayenne around crackville looking for the snail. If I spot it, it will be another low speed chase like the O.J. case!

I don't know about that. I'm sure my SD can outrun Rodney King's Hyundai.

Is there a grace period for recovery or can you claim the loss the moment the police confirm it was stolen?

... I don't mean to make light of a disturbing situation.

My friend:

These situations are only disturbing if you let them be. It's actually funny. My brother had borrowed the snail. A doper ex-employee was staying over for the night asking for help and his job back. Brother woke up to the house alarm sounding and then heard the snail start.

Little brother runs out of the house naked and leaps on the hood of the snail like a flying squirel as the thief roars down the street slowly in a cloud of diesel smoke. He slid off at the corner and is largely a road rash display case right now, but he's o.k.

The insurance folks wait 30 days and then write a check, they think, just for NADA value. We will need to talk about that one.

Thanks for all the views and responses, I'll advise everyone what happens!

shark, I just went thru this...

about a month ago when my '84 500SEL got stolen. I got the vehicle on ebay and felt I got a good deal. Well, the insurance co (SF) only wanted to give me what I paid for it on ebay. "The idea behind insurance is NOT to for you to make a profit" is what they told me. Well, they sure as hell have been profitting from me for the last 10 years.

The claims adjuster was a real PITA. I ended up talking with her boss, and told him that she had no business dealing with the public when she has such a bad attitude. I told them that I would wait as long as I needed to since they were paying for my rental vehicle. They realized that it could go for a long time so they sent me a letter the next day saying that they would no longer pay for the rental after 2 more days. Anyways, after haggling with them for a few more days, we finally came up with an agreement.

Good luck,
Frank

given that you know who stole don't you think the cops will have a good chance of finding it.

I guess everyone should go out and have their cars appraised now, and then have Lo-Jac installed.

The thief stole the keys and snagged the car. I'm not so sure it will be recovered because the snitches have reported he gave the car to another low life locally and I've been looking to no avail.

Then the question becomes whether you want your snail back after some dirtbag has driven it all over... If it's recovered, I guess I'll cross that bridge at that time.

As well as being a MB Diesel fan, I've been a plaintiff's lawyer for 20 years and I can handle the "what's it worth debate" but I hate fighting my own battles.

Thanks all

shark, being a lawyer.....

can you answer a question? If your vehicle is recovered AFTER 30 days, can you deny the vehicle and the insurance company will still hafta pay you? Someone told me that up here in Michigan.

I believe you can get the $ on the 30th day and you might get an opportunity to buy the car.

I live in the Tampa area, and do a lot of interstate highway commuting. I will definately keep an eye out for it.
