What application are they for ?

First are Bosio for Om616/17, second are Bosch for early VW diesel (from the India factory)
I would like to see a set of new Bosch nozzles from the German factory for comparison. Also the metallurgy would be interesting. The Chinese like to use softer metal for easier machining (and it's also less expensive to manufacture) and I wonder if the India factory does the same. Also cut corners on heat treating... All of which cuts manufacturing cost, but with a tradeoff in service life. 60x mag shoes a lot of detail. maybe more than is needed. I will ask, but my guess regarding the slice out of the pintle tip is that it 1) helps with positive seating by releasing pressure post injection 2) acts almost like a "pilot injection" to get fuel flowing out in the pre-chamber quicker. at the start of injection. The seal comes from the second "bevel", which is lapped into the seat in the nozzle for a very precise fit, so the rough stuff seen on the Bosch nozzle shouldn't affect the function much if at all. The difference, IMO, is pride in craftsmanship. It is less expensive to leave the part above the seat rough, but if you are only interested in making good stuff and not half-way, you make the whole thing nice. I want to see the ones from the German factory. Not sure if what we see here has any bearing on anything, I just thought it would be fun to see it up close, and figured you guys would enjoy seeing it, too. These are the first pics with my new "toy" digital microscope QX5. I adapted a nice ring stand stage and a ring light and a couple of other lights to snap these pics. Microscope itself is less than $100 but does a good job despite the poor depth of field.

Interesting thread.
As I scrolled down and looked at the two sets of photos then went back 2-3 more times and looked closely I could tell the first pintle had a better finish. I agreed with H2O2. Then KERMA let the cat out of the bag. I can still see a little!  I've been curious about the Indian Bosch nozzles. Now I can see a difference. Haven't heard anything good about them. Still, I need nozzles. I'm close to dropping $45 on a set for the 83 300D. I'm still uncomfortable about the lack of consistency in the quality of machining. KERMA, if you ever decide to offer a group buy or a forum member discount I think there would be interest there. I'm interested. Mike
