Turbo rebuild

Well this week I'm getting my turbo rebuilt. It has been the source of my massive oil leak (after extensive testing and replacing of gaskets). I took it out yesterday with little difficulty and this morning drove out to McKinney to drop it off with Forced Performance (www.forcedperformance.net). They really seem to know their stuff. He looked at the turbo and knew what type of car it was (that or he remembered me calling, but still)

I'm expecting them to call either today or tomorrow morning and tell me what all needs doing other than the basic stuff for a rebuild.

hehehehehe I can't wait till I have it back in the car

Capt Kirk, if you want to prevent the rusting that occurs on the cast housing used in these turbos, ask them to have it powder coated. There is a special high temp material available for turbos. I had this done to a turbo rebuilt by Majestic turbos of Waco, TX and it turned out real pretty. They will probably have to send it out to have this process done, adding a few days to the overall turnaround time.
The black surface coating doesn't deteriorate when it gets oil or dirt on it (inevitable), so don't go for the silver based metal coating for the turbo housing, Jet Hot advised me of that, see: http://www.jet-hot.com/
I posted a picture of a turbo thus treated on the long running diesel intercooler thread started by Ben Ridge here on Autoforum, if you can't find it let me know.
