I drove up to Alaska in my 1975 240D in around May of 1976. Went to Prince Rupert, took the Ferry to Haines or Skagway, I can't remember which one, and drove to Anchorage. Then I drove all over the place, including Denali National Park, Valdez, took the ferry to Cordova and back, and so on. Never had a problem getting Diesel. The local refinery sold something under the brand of Tesoro or something, and it was all over the place. Always had Diesel. Came back in late 1977 and did the same trip home. To be honest, once out of a settlement area, the most traffic I saw was trucks or construction equipment, most of which ran on Diesel.

I have no idea what it is like now, but I really had no problems back then. Jim

Just drove nearly 3,200 miles from CA through NV, UT, CO, NM and AZ -- never had a problem finding fuel. Cheapest diesel: $1.27 a gallon in at the Love's stop in Quartsite, AZ.
