Duh ! Replaced Air Filter Runs normal again !

My 240 started to lose power a couple days ago, and I first thought it might be the fuel filters , loose connection or something. anyhow I took a look at the air filter and it was black as night. I looked in my log book and I last changed it 8 months ago . Dummy me always takes the hard way first . I always keep xtra filters and highwear items on hand , just my expierince from doing my own work since I was a kid . Hans .

240-diesel,

Eight months on an air filter? I get about 8 years.

Maybe you live in a very dusty area or drive thru dust storms.

Replace

You have to replace them - I thought since they were bolted on it was a permanent element. (LOL)

I dont know why it got dirty so fast , Who knows maybe the intake has some heavy buildup in there. On the air filter there is a small area that has complete black coverage, I will look further into this. The Egr maybe not working right , I tried to test it to see if the valve moves by applying vacum , but I cant get my big head underneath to get a good look at it. It sits in a tough spot.

Does it really make that much difference? Mine is about 8 months old, I guess I should get a new one since they are only about $14...or maybe wait another 7 or 8 years...what do you think?

Typically on a diesel, a seriously clogged air filter will effect fuel mileage more than power.

Is your engine using a lot of oil? Was it oil that made it black?

Have a great day,

Larry, The 240 uses only less than 1/2 qt in 3000 miles. But the only thing right now that I am looking at is that one section on the filter has a v shape black mark from the bottom of the filter to the top . This would be right next to the round intake bore. When you look at it , you would first think that the black shadow was made by pushing in reverse somehow.
