I am trying to get the drive shaft out of my parts car (79 300d) and I can't get it loose from the rear end. The transmission is gone, so there is plenty of room ahead of it, but it does not want to let go at the back. There aren't any circlips that I didn't see are there?

This may sound obvious but, have you unbolted the center shaft support?

If so, then the centering sleeve may be "fused" to the rear flex disk from corrosion/grime/age. You might have to pry the shaft away from the disk with a small crow or prybar.

Once you have the disk removed, inspect it carefully for cracks or other damage. They're inexpensive enough so might consider replacement "on principle" (as they state in the manual) if they/it has a lot of miles.

Yes - it tends to get a little corrosion on it and requires more than hand force to pull it off the flange.

A heavy screwdriver or small tire iron works wonders.
