Ever Famous "what Oil" question with a twist

OK sooooo..... now dont hate me here but u guys know diesel better then the ricer kids that dominate the Datsun/Nissan boards so Im going to ask you.

I have an LD28 diesel Datsun that calls for 30 weight oil in the Temrature ranges it will spend it's next few years (north FL.)

It is a 1982. Since oil technology has changed... and the engine has just under 117,000 miles.. what do ya'll reccomend? I get the feeling that diesel rated 30wt would be rather hard to find right??

Any synthetic 15W50 diesel rated oil will be fine, unless it has been run with non-detergent oil..... Brand isn't important so long as it is synthetic (and not one of those semisynthetic blends -- treat those like dino oil).

You can also use any good rated (CH-4 or later) dino oil with reduced change interval (3000 miles or so).

If you do change to synthetic and it has been run on dino oil, change the filter after 1000 miles, it will be full already, then again at 3000 just to make sure it ain't full again!

Any of the dino 15w-40s would work wonderfully, IMO.
Most of the synthetic diesel oils are 5w-40s, and Id stay away from that... Amsoil has a 15w40 diesel oil, but thats a tough call on whetehr or not to use a synth in it. If you really know about the care of the engine, you could try it, if not, Id just say to stick with the dino diesel oils.
The real benefit of synthetics is theire faster flow when cold. In your climate, I dont think its particularly necessary, as the oil will remain pretty warm.
