Puzzling Diesel Question

Hello board, If diesels are so durable and worry free, why did MB decide to halt the production of diesels on their new US models??

Yep yep.... what he said.

Its simple....... from what I read, American Diesel fuel SUCKS. The quality of diesel fuel in Europe is much higher and consistent in quality from fuel stop to fuel stop.

mike690003,

According to your profile, this is your first posting appearance on the Diesel Discussion board. And this is what you come up with?

I'm not feeling as nice as TXBill tonight -- next time, do a little research before posting. And maybe in not such an antagonizing tone, alright?

Careful there. I think you mean most American diesel sucks. Not all.

Here in California, we have ULSD which is on par with Euro diesel. And we have CARB, who are some of the biggest fuel nazis around.

ok...... so most of it sucks. . In general America is behind the times with diesel fuel quality. Thanks in part to the lobbying of the trucking industry and others I suspect.

May be because Mercedes figured out that they couldn't fix stupid. If you take a look through the diesel board you'll be amazed at the mileage the diesel cars put on. I also Have a VW diesel and expect at least 500,000 miles from it. Who knows the mercedes I bought I expect to be good for at least another 200k. Most gasoline engined cars these types of mileages would be the exception not the rule. Most people are just not in the know when it comes to diesel powered vehicles. My belief is that alot of the pollution issues are a lot of baloney too. My $0.02.

Joe Blowe, we have ULSD in California but we're one of the five states not getting the new MB CDI.

Mike Piles, well put. People fear soot they can see and smell more than carbon monoxide they can't see or smell. It takes a lot longer to die in a closed garage with a Diesel idling than with a gasser idling.
