Vacuum transducer question

Does anyone know the function of the vacuum lines that are connected to the side of the vacuum transducers along with the electrical connection. The two top fittings appear to be the input and output ports.

In my car they all have to two side ports connected to a Y fitting sending the same signal to both the top and bottom of the transducer.

The car is a 1991 300D

Are these the transducers for the EGR and air recirc on the turbo? I've seen something similar on my 300, but both of them are shot and I've not bothered to replace them, just plugged the supply line to keep dirt out (and get the AC to work properly!).

The black lines are fresh air from the passenger area.

One each of the other line traces back to the vacuum pump.

One each of the other line goes to the EGR & ARV ('86-87 603.96x) and if I remember right, EGR & wastegate ('91(2)-3 602).

The electrical connector selects vacuum or fresh air to the EGR and ARV/wastegate.

I believe you can think of the transducers are variable flow switchover valves.

I did some testing and the bottom ports are indeed vents.
I connected a vacuum pump and power supply and found that they transfer vacuum proportional to current. 600ma (.6amp) delivers full vacuum and is very linear in between 0 and 600ma.

The reason that I wanted to know this is because I am going to design a pressure to current module to operate the waste gate. The system as designed will not let you disconnect the EGR and keep normal turbo boost.

Tasma,
OldSouth, the guy with the 94SD350 disconnected his EGR and had the same problem. I think he got a mechanical boost controller from Garrett and everything works fine now. See if you can contact him. His method may be easier than what you are attempting. RT

I have the circuit board designed already and parts ordered. The cost for the parts was only $35 plus $100 for the circuit board house tooling charges. I design circuits and boards for a living so it was easy for me.

Taking the turbo off and changing the actuator would have been more work for me.

Tasma,
We all have our strong points. I would rather pull an IP than even look at a wiring schematic. RT
