Bought a new car!

Well new to me.. it's a gasser, and American! It's a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria with almost 35,000 miles. Toreador Red (beatuiful color) with Tan cloth interior. 4.6 V8 that runs forever (same engine as Police and Taxi). Here are a couple pics I took while on the way home with it this afternoon.

I started really liking these cars after I owned a 98 a while back and have been looking for a 2001.. got this one at a great price!

How long do you sit with the key in 'on' waiting for a yellow warning light to turn off?

safety

That's a beautiful car Turbodiesel. I admire them myself. However here in Phoenix police departments have started switching to Chrysler products over safety concerns following a number of explosions when their crusiers were involved in accidents. Mostly minor. There appears to be some safety concern with the location of the rear mounted fuel tank and some bolt that can puncture it easily in certain accidents.

Not trying to cast doubts on your purchase, as I said I think they are great looking cars (I love large vehicles myslef) and I wish more manufacturers would build cars like that again. But you might just inquire at a Ford shop about the fuel tank issue.

Thanks guys! This one is not a Police Interceptor, its a regular model sold to the public.. has a nice cushy interior There has been much debate over the gas tank issue but I have concluded that it is possible for just about any vehicle to burst into flames at a 75mph+ rear impact, so I am really not worried about it.. I don't park on the side of interstates like the state police do so my chances of a car hitting me at 75mph are slim to none. Yes I love big cars and the ride on the highway is amazing.. perfect for my upcoming trip to Orlando, then cross-country this summer. Now I really look like an old man!

I'm not a traitor, and why would I change my handle? I still have my 300SDL. You can own two cars at the same time, it's been known to happen.

Nice Car! I like them too. I was sold on CV's back in the mid 90's when I rented one with three other people to go on a long trip. Alloys wheels, 4 wheel disks and the "sport" package. Damned thing got 26mpg cruising at 80mph. Handled and stopped way better than I expected. Very nice cars that have proven to be very durable too. For the money they're tough to beat. RT

Nice car, dude.

I actually started looking for a Crown Vic when I ended up buying my E320.

My mother and friends were teasing me when I told them I was thinking of buying a Crown Vic. You know, it's an old person's car, yada yada yada.

But, like you, I like them. Good, classic styling, full size American car, rear wheel drive, V8, King-of-the-Road driving characteristics cruising down the highway.

I've seen many Crown Vic taxi's with over 500,000 miles, so you know these cars are built to last.

Have fun.

The Crown Vic is a great car, Turbodiesel. My ex-wife has a 94 Crown Vic that we bought new and it is still going strong with 95,000 miles on it. No major problems to date. I miss that car - it was black and people always cleared out of the fast lane when I pulled up behind them!

Ford occasionally screws up and makes a good car -- examples are the Crown Vic (only the styling stinks -- I hate having to watch I don't get my eye poked out by the top corner of the front door!), the 60's Continentals, and the last model Town Car. Bloody things run forever, and with that OHC 302 get great milage with good performance.

Must drive the bean counters crazy.

Those cars have some terrible idiosyncracies! Beware!

1) They don't use glow plugs (honest, I'm not kidding)! They have some sort of "sparkle" ignition or some such.

2) They don't have ANY "klatta, klatta, klatta". Very dangerous since you may not know that your engine is actually running.(safety feature).

3) The oil is NOT black. How are friends and family to know that you've been working on the car and they need to give you a wide berth. (no telltale stains on hands).

4) They smell funny. No diesel frangrance to enthrall the senses.
