Fixed the Blower!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I could not stand having a broken blower for another minute.
My son Josh and I started working on the blower this morning at 10:00am. Step One - Remove the wiper assembly. This proved to be the hardest part since the instructions are pretty vague on all the parts to remove before the wiper assembly bolts are accessible. First the trim on the bottom of the windows come off. Then the air dams. Then the window drains and then the air circulation filters and assembly are removed. Then you can get to the 4 bolts holding the wiper assembly, unplug it and remove it. SteP Two - Remove the cover over the blower. 8 clips. Step Three - unfasten the clip holding the blower and unplug the blower. Step Four. Remove the Brushes from the motor and buy replacements. I could not find the identical brushes but a local starter and alternator rebuilder had two that I could make do. I had to cut them to length and sand down the sides to make them fit the slide assembly. Step Five - Solder the wires to the brushes, and install them in their sliders. Step Six - Reassemble in reverse order. Then the moment of truth. Start the car and turn on the blower. IT WORKED !!! Now I need a shot of AC Coolant and I will be in business for the summer !!! Sorry, I should have used different terminology. I should have realized that there were those with their mind in the gutter.

Which car was this?

This was the 1987 300D. The blower motor is accessible from the engine compartment under the wiper assembly.
Ken, looks like we have the same cars! Joe. |
This guy sells a rebuild kit for about $28 including brushes. Look under repair kits.

Which guy? The web address did not come through on the post. I would like to get the correct brushes for the motor. When you get brushes you have to get a high carbon brush. One that is too hard will eat up the motor. Thanks, Joe |
oops....
Sorry it's www.**************.com. Look under "Repair Manuals". It comes with the brushes. Can you report back your findings? Thanks |
