No plumes of blue smoke on hot days?
Hi,
Ok, second time this has happened. In the morning on cool days or so...clouds of blue smoke which eventually clear, often times accompanied by rough start. The day before yesterday, and today...mid-day round 3 Pm when it was fairly hot out, (well...around here atleast 70s?) only Lil bit of smoke on start up...what's the dilleyo, yo? Thanks, -Kurt |

If its unburned diesel fuel at start-up... NP!!
Otherwise, could be burning oil seeping into crankcase overnight through worn valve seals. Quick test...... ask someone else to start the car cold while you cover the exhaust with breathable rag and carefully study the smoke. If it looks like diesel and smells like diesel, you've got no problem - yet better check valve clearances. |

Bad glowplugs and/or low compression will give you white smoke and rough idle. Blue smoke, smelling of burnt oil rather than diesel fuel, is bad valve guide seals or worn guides.
You don't see it when the engine is warm because the fuel (and oil) burn much better than when the engine is cold. Peter
