300D Evaporator

Searching through the archives has confirmed my experience, 123 evaporators rarely need replacement.
However, I have come across a situation that may require such.
The vehicle is a 1985 300D. I am in the process of repairing the a/c, new drier, expansion valve, all new "O" rings and repair/replacement of hoses.
The high pressure line coming OFF the evaporator has a few inches of slack. In other words, it almost would seem the line has separated itself from the core. The low pressure line is rock steady.
Past experience tells me that both lines should be steady, coming out of the heater box with no movement.
Any thoughts? Alan
