I've had two windshields replaced. One was in my old 108 chassis 280SE and that was a special order from Germany through the dealer. It was a Sigla windshield. The other one I had replaced was in my '83 300SD and again, I specified that I wanted an MB windshield so they ordered it from the dealer and it is a PPG with the star on it. I have State Farm keep a $100 deductible on all my cars so it costs me $100 and I always supply a new seal, which is at my own expense, but worth it.

Price issue. The price for aftermarket glass was a couple of hundred dollars cheaper. The installer only charged me $30.00 to put it in. I didn't mind spending the money as I (mistakenly) thought that I would probably get several years, if not longer, before I had to ever replace it. My local dealer is list +25%.
