Hi,

I have a small, but annoying issue on my wood around the switches on the center console. Somehow a crack in the veneer caught my fingernail and snapped up. I saved the chip (very small, but I still notice the spot where itwas), but managed to loose it today. So, Id like to fill the spot where all the polyurethane or whatever it was, was.
Ive done a search on this, but everyone wants to re-do the wood. Mine is fine except around the switches, where it is cracked...
So, what is the best clear, thick coating to use so that the wood is all flat and protected. I dont care if its a bit lighter than the surrounding area, I just dont want bare wood which is both lighter and at a different level, because of the .5mm or so of urethane. Any suggestions of what the best coating and method to fix it is, would be appreciated. I dont plan to stain it, just fill it, maybe with a tiny little paintbrush, doing a coat a day or so until its smooth?

Secondly, the back edge of said console isnt attached down. It doesnt sit up much, but it is high enough that coins, etc in the center console tray behind the switches can slide underneath. How do I keep this down?

Call a Mercedes dismantler like Potomac German Auto or SilverStar Recycling.

I had a little nick on the side of my climate control's wood and touched it up with some spar urethane (Minwax). I only put a coat or two on it, but it was enough to make the color match and stop the wood from being stained from dirt. It isn't that hard to redo the wood completely, but getting it all to match is kinda hard. Saving the chip wouldn't of did you any good anyway, it was just the clear coating on it.

I've seen two ways to attach it, one had a screw through the wood into a clip, the other which isn't working right at the moment is the same setup minus the screw. It has a plastic piece inside which I think is supposed to grip something else inside, maybe you can loosen the ashtray and slide the console forward and the plastic may grip?!
