Proud New Owner of a 1987 190D 2.5 Turbo
Hello everyone,
I’m the proud new owner of a 1987 190D 2.5 Turbo Mercedes-Benz. I’m thoroughly enjoying the car. The car rides very nicely, and accelerates well. (Not too shabby for a 16-year-old car!! :) :) :) ) Any other owners of this type of car please feel free to let me know what to look for, check, and so on. I have to do some preventive maintenance, but I’ll be ready for the upcoming New England Fall GTG drag races! :) :) :) |
Congrats! That is a very sought after car!
|
Any pictures?
Some pictures of the car would be nice, too  :D ;) Congratulations on the find! |
Sorry for the somewhat rude comment earlier; it was meant in jest.
Seriously, welcome aboard!! :) |
Congratulations Benzgirl! I hope you enjoy your new family member! Have you picked out a name yet? How many miles on her?
If you have any problems/questions, there's lots of helpful guys on this board! |
Congrats!!!
I seriously jealous! I would love to be able to get ahold of one of those. Hang on to it and keep it in good shape! |
gotta take it to the next NE GTG! I hope it's not a diamond blue one that I wanted to buy long ago!! (but I just couldn't buy a car back then).
drag races... :p my diesel would surely lose against a 190D 2.5T! |
Is it a stick by chance?
Have a great day, |
No, all 190D Turbos came with automatics. A manual tranny was not an option, at least in the USA. Check the 0-60 time, it should be about 12 seconds. If not, power is below normal - this is the easy test to see how it's running. And congrats on the new car! :D :D

wilkommen, bienvenue, welcome!
watch for the next New England GTG :) |
Thanks ladies and gentleman!
Hello again everyone,
Thank you all very much for posting, for all the information, and for the warm welcome. :) :) I appreciate it. I am sorry for the delay in posting this – summer jobs, you know how it goes!! :) To get a little more in depth with the car, it’s dark blue, unnamed at this point, has 155,000+ miles on it, and had two previous owners, one long-term, one short term. The last owner was a single, 25 year-old, elementary schoolteacher from Cambridge, Massachusetts. Yes, the car has an automatic transmission, and having learned to drive standards early, I can appreciate what this car might be like driven manually. Service records show a stuck pin in a valve body repair so if a transplant ever becomes needed, I’d happily consider a workable standard transmission conversion. Thanks again! :) :) |
Way to go:) and welcome aboard. You got a nice automobile there.

BMW prepped one of their own 3 series turbodiesel cars for track use in the late 90s. I don't know if it officially raced, but the article I read in European Car seemed to speak rather highly of it--implying it was quite formidable.
I have always had a fantasy about taking a tuned diesel car to VIR. I have taken gasoline cars there of course... but a diesel would be freakin awesome. |
One year MB put a couple of 180Ds in the Mille Miglia...naturally, they finished first in their class. Still, an average of over 60 mph ain't bad for a car with a rated top speed of about 64 mph.
