'81 300SD pre-chambers

How to determine what size of spacer I should use to set up pre-chambers. I had my cylinder head surfaced, now I need to assemble pre-chambers. I am afraid they may be set to deep and interfere with pistons. For anyone with correct procedure thanks in advance.

It is good that you understand that you need to check that.
Be advised also that if you do need and use a thicker spacer that you may need to reem the glow plug holes after you have it all together for the g-plugs to go back in.
You need to be in the process of acquiring a Factory Shop Manual for the engine. I can not imagine taking a chance on relying on the information from the board.... there are things in the FSM which you need to know ... Many board answers are naturally answers to direct specific questions...and you may not even know to ask questions about something important if you do not have the FSM as the starting point.

You determine the spacer size by measuring how much protrusion of the pre-chamber there is into the cylinder. Use a depth gauge and measure from the flat part of the head adjacent to the pre-chamber to tip of the pre-chamber where it sticks in toward the cylinder. The manual calls for a distance of 7.8 to 8.4 mm.

The sealing rings come as follows:
a) 1.9-2.1 (standard) p/n 615 017 00 60
b) 2.2-2.4 p/n 615 017 01 60
c) 2.5-2.7 p/n 615 017 02 60
d) 2.8-3.0 p/n 615 017 03 60.

If I had a scanner I would post a pic from the manual.

Thanks Engatwork for your help. Can you tell me how MB specs pre-chamber's injection holes. I think they can burn out and become too large. Thanks in advance.
