Yea I think I seen someone else post this up before, but I don't think it was the same page. The thing that blows my mind is .46gal/second and 5,608,312 lb/ft at 102rpm, not bad.

I saw a diesel on a show called "California's Gold" on PBS that is used as a generator in the Los Angeles area. As remember it was quite a bit bigger than any of these.

yes...
Even my "non-highperformance" 606 engine squirts oil on the underside of each piston. A borrowed concept!
Nice stats though - only needs to turn a paltry 102 RPM to achieve its torqe and hp ratings. Did they say how they got this thing onto the ship? Looks like it would need to be built inside the ship. Perhaps I missed that.

I believe they run on "bunker fuel" which is a step up from asphalt and must be heated to make it thin enough to be used.... That things a monster! RT

Looks like it's being built in a factory, they usually build that type of thing, test it, break it back down, then reassemble it in the ship.

I have a friend who works on these engines for a living. He makes enough money in 3 months to allow him to play the rest of the year.
Big downside he is covered in grease / diesel for most of those 3 months. He told me that it takes about an hour to cold-start one of these monsters. A fuel-heating apparatus is used to get the bunker fuel hot enough to run. The main engine is started on Diesel, and when warm, switched over to the warmed bunker fuel. Sort of like the WVO crowd!
