Aftermarket replacement options for W123 AC?

Is is possible to replace the AC on an '83 300CD with some sort of aftermarket unit? Likely cost?

Don't want to fiddle trying to get the OEM unit to work if I can avoid it...thanks.

Are you saying the whole system or just certain parts?

REPLACE old with something new...

that works.

We need more details about your question. Is the system working as it should? Has it been converted to 134? What exactly are you looking for?

The a/c unit is a collection of components. There is absolutely no need to replace ALL components in order to restore it to its proper function. If it has been converted to 134 and you want it to cool properly, you will have to flush the system thoroughly, replace the filter drier and convert back to R12.

Good luck,

It would not be fiddling to put another unit in... it would be serious WORK....
You may have been worn out by the AC threads lately.. but the actual systems are very simple and you just need to follow certain rules as if they were sent down from ON HIGH... if you want it to both work well and LAST......
Actually they WERE sent down from his COOLNESS LARRY... so if you just listen to him you will be in good shape...

Non A/C car to A/C?!

Hey just followed this thread and it seemed to (nearly) fit...

Does anyone have the "LIST" of MB parts I would need in order to oconvert a non A/C 230E UK car to A/C ?

I would do all the work myself and in the correct order. I just do not know where to start with the bits I need.

cheers all

I don’t know what anyone else may think, but…

I’d love to get rid of the automatic climate control. I wish that my 300D had the manual controls that came in the 240’s. Just give me some simple knobs & levers – whatever it takes to control the system the way *I* want it instead of the damn climate control trying to do the thinking for me!
